Charcoal, natural pigment, rice paper and marble powder on wood panel
20 × 30 × 3 cm

This original mixed-media painting by contemporary artist Ekaterina Galera is created through a slow process of layering, sanding and refining the surface.

Within its intimate format, a textured form extends from the edge into open space, concentrating the relationship between visual weight and lightness. Rice paper and marble powder add depth and subtle variations to the surface.

The finished surface is protected with several layers of acrylic medium to ensure stability and durability over time. Its small scale encourages close viewing, while the 3 cm deep wood panel gives the artwork an object-like presence.

Ready to hang, it can be displayed without a frame, either on its own or as part of a group with other works from the series.
