No Place Art - Materiality, London 2026

In September 2026, I took part in No Place Art - Edition Two: Materiality, a group exhibition at The Handbag Factory in London.

The exhibition brought together 80 contemporary artists from 12 countries from five continents, working across painting, printmaking, sculpture and material-led mixed media.

Centred on materiality, the exhibition considered the physical, conceptual and emotional possibilities of making, and the ways in which material can carry traces of process, place, memory and transformation.

I presented Residue V, a work from my Residue series, created with charcoal, natural pigment and marble powder on wood panel.

Within the wider context of the exhibition, I was particularly interested in seeing how very different practices approached surface, texture and material presence.

Moving through the exhibition, the works shifted between painting, printmaking, sculptural and mixed-media approaches, creating a dialogue between different processes and ways of working.

My own work develops through layering, sanding and removal. These processes leave traces within the surface and reveal the physical qualities of the materials. Seen alongside the work of other participating artists, Residue V became part of a broader conversation around material, process and the physical presence of the artwork.

Beyond the individual works, Materiality was also conceived as a meeting point for artists, collectors, curators and audiences. The opening brought many of the participating artists and visitors together in the gallery, making the exhibition not only an encounter with different material practices, but also a space for conversation and exchange.
